November and December As Sisters
Behind October comes the gloomy one
arriving as the leaves are turning brown.
Though sometimes she blows in with a bright sun,
she’s often sulking in her fading gown.
She’s growing old and colder in the clime
where I reside, but how she changes mood
by stepping lively at Thanksgiving time
when families unite in gratitude.
December’s right behind her bringing joy,
for more festivities are bound to come.
Especially for every girl and boy
awaiting Santa, she is sure not glum!
Her gardens, dull now, which one time were green,
are covered by white flakes the heavens bring.
Fields shine in moonlight – lovely and pristine.
But snow will vanish with the warmth of spring.
December seems most popular of all
the sister months, for customs, songs, good food,
and lights galore bring thoughts at end of fall
of Christ the King and peace and brotherhood.
