Nothing Simple About Poetry

There is nothing simple about poetry Because it is from the heart and the soul She wells out of us onto the paper in A variety of overwhelming moods In a plethora of feelings With a life of her own It is our job to listen to her intently And to follow her lead. Not trying to Usurp her in any way, Taking care rather to Soul-listen to her Allowing her Freedom to Tell us What she Wants to Say.

Well done; had to "fav" this one. Your imagery paints poetry perfectly.

I listen, but she's temperamental. Some days she wouldn't tell me anything :) But you've captured the essence of poetry very nicely, Caren.

Thank you Bernard. She is always blowing stuff in my ear. Sometimes I do not want to stop but she is insistent and yells STOP! It is DONE! so I do.

Thank you Mark. I am starting to understand poetry a bit, and she is quite bossy with me.

Wonderful poem... it reminded me of a quote by John Keats: "If poetry comes not as naturally as leaves on a tree it had better not come at all." Our muses definitely know best! ;)
