You knelt, and from a bended knee
offered me an engagement ring.
Then you asked, "will you marry me?"
and my heart just wanted to sing.
You'd chosen a gorgeous spring day,
to launch the best surprise ever.
But, the ring fell and rolled away
down a storm drain, gone forever.
The look on your face was painful,
for I saw the tears start to swell.
And although chances were doubtful
you began searching where it fell.
Don't let this leave you in tatters,
the ring’s gone, but I still have you.
Believe me, nothing else matters
there’s naught that anyone can do.
I remember how great it felt,
when you slipped it on my finger.
And when playing the cards fate dealt,
those are the feelings that linger.
