Conflicted Country

I looked out at America from my porch the other day, Unusual, it's appearance, seems so different I would say. Problems in abundance, so many that I see, but this was once America a special place to be. Remembering recent times my thoughts I could convey, flowed freely, not a worry, of what I had to say. Judgment's made of people, and who they just might be, a great man's words remind us, more than color makes up me. As people so divided the politics at play, E Pluribus Unum a motto we betray. Attacks from the left, reactions on the right, these political old cronies wage a never ending fight. Opinions, such a chasm, of who that we should be, a country this divided, can never remain free. It's time now for the many, to answer, lest we fall, to get back to united, an "America" for us all!

Very interesting set of observations. Many of us worry about the future of this land including yours truly. It's tough for people to realize that their rights have limits and that what we do can have an adverse effect on other people. There should be a sensible balance of freedom and responsibility. Some in the political arena are using division for political advantage and not providing legitimate rationale for what they say. Democracy can disappear very easily if we don't preserve it.

Duke, you are spot on when you state Democracy can easily disappear. This poem reflects a certain angst I feel about issues occurring in the country, and the divisive effects it seems to be generating amongst our fellow countryman! Again, thank you for taking time to comment!

I agree, Mark, 100%....a divided country is a conflicted country and is, therefore, not free. Intolerance and extremism may be our downfall. Hard to watch her country's demise. I appreciate your words and thanks for telling me about this poem, Sara
