Not Too Cold Yet

The season's first snow fell today just a dusting but enough to excite. The kids and dogs dashed about delighting in the new found flakes, cold but not too cold yet. On the other side of the world the day's first drones struck today. The kids and dogs. dashed about but no one was delighted; the dead cold but not too cold yet. Revised 9/8/2014; first written soon after 11/09/2001. I changed a specific county to 'the other side of the world' and 'missiles' to 'drones', but not much else has changed.

I really like this poem, I liked the imagery of snow, we just had some last week, and this is March, it's spring break week so we did not have snow days. I also like the comparison of snow fall to drones and the sad effects of war. Children and dogs are the unfortunate victims of wars past and present, wherever adults fail to make peace and use war as a zero sum game. You say all this so beautifully in the last paragraph. Thank you for writing this poem.

A very chilling and dramatic look at life Dave. It is a strange thing when we talk of war in the present tense, when it is anything but. It been about since Cain waged his war of hate against Abel. Nothing new under the sun is there? Great wrwite. God Bless. D.

Thanks Dave. Yes war and aggression have been around since our species evolved and may well be part of the reason for our success. But our weapons are much more powerful now and we must strive for an alternative.

Great write Dave...chilling contrast. For all the complaining we all do about our country and government, how lucky we are to be here instead of there!

Wow, deeply expressive piece Dave. The imagery is great, along with the presentation of cold weather being synonymous with the presence of drones. Overall, great piece. Check out some of my poems. Might find some you like. Peace.
