Not So Obvious
Not So Obvious
It is obvious that I am a man
less obvious that I am married
with children.
You may judge my appearance
try to interpret my actions
in a vain attempt
to view my world
through your eyes.
I would not recommend it!
As these eyes have seen too much
of this world
of its beauty and ugliness
its joy and meanness
shed too many tears of Joy
and also of sorrow
wept in the empty silence
of contemplation.
You would judge the book of my life
by its tattered flannel cover
mock the yellowing of its aged pages
shun the folded edges of creased moments
refuse the gifts I hold for you.
What appears obvious
is that you are oblivious
to the truth in my eyes,
the love in my heart,
the touch of my spirit,
for within the covers
within the bindings of this book
lie the secrets of a life
the loves of a heart
and a knowledge
forged in the fire
of experience.
