Notes About The Poem

not my idea

I’m sick. I’ve got the ick.
this wasn’t my idea.
My Grandmère had some little orphans over - a couple had coughs.
They were cute and vulnerable - they seemed to have subdued fun.
I caught it - the baby flu.
I thought I could fight it off but it got the upper hand.
Grandmère called a doctor and he was here in twenty minutes.
He asked to see my chest. “If you won’t laugh,” I granted.
I got the COVID rapid antigen test, No.
The rapid influenza diagnostic test, No.
A Rapid RSV antigen test, No.
“You’ve got what everyone else has,” the doctor said.
“Or you have something else.” He added.
‘I could be a doctor,’ I thought.
“Do you want to take a minute to talk to an AI?” I asked.
He gave me some steroids, so my fastball will get better.
Between coughing fits, I suggested a medically induced coma.
Anyway, it’s official - I’m sick, something nasty but nothing in particular.
He gave me Hycet (cough syrup) a yellow, cherry flavored opioid.
Five minutes after I took a pinky-finger dose I stopped coughing.
Something, somewhere deep inside suggested I cough.
‘Nahh,’ I thought, not now.
Gotta go, I’m very sleepy.

using a GoPro with a 'follow me' pin - the video jiggles, wildly loses focus and I'm not centered!

do doctors actually do home visits in some countries? in the uk they tell you to take a paracetamol and stop whining, they won't even do home visits if you're pregnant with a tumour

No, ha! (stop whining). This is the first time I've been sick since I've been here, but the doctor came to the house - which I thought was great ??

I feel for you of course. Been ick free this season so far. Last March was a killer. Didn’t know lungs could manufacture such copious amounts of mystery fluids. Relieved to see your sense of humor unaffected. That would be a REAL tragedy. Wishes for a speedy recovery may be presumed. The extra-strength ones. <3

I've been lucky, I never got Covid - or any of those RSVs. I think this is the vanilla flu.

Dear Anais, first, I love the humor. Maybe you should go onstage, at least march in a parade, either way, you can get paid. Sorry, my own little humor to cheer you up. It is that season where everyone is getting sick and having several grandchildren under the age of 5, they bring every disease known to science, perhaps several that have not been identified. I hope you feel better and loved the poem. Winter Blessings, Anais, Daniel

Thanks (humor), I think you mean, "maybe I should be on TV - so you could turn me off." Grandchildren would be the best - but kids catch everything and bring it right home. ??
