Nobody's Child

Her chapped palms smell of

roughened by shrewd plays of world.
And in the creases of

sleeps an orphaned childhood, old.

Among distasteful leering,
ineffectual rags of
-modesty cries-
unfortunate beauty trapped among
-lechers-
pawn broker and hawker alike.

-Nobody’s Child -
gazes high UP , at the

Such a beautiful poem! I could totally relate to it as I've seen the Jasmine sellers in my locality. I have seen the young girls going old over the years. I've seen them selling hopes of erotic interludes to young lovers, and to older women who grasp at a memory of what once was. I've often wondered what the Jasmine seller thought and felt. Jasmine for her was probably a few morsels... Beautiful poem, Rajlakshmi. Loved every word so beautifully strung like that on a string of Jasmine flowers.

Longing for hope in the midst of tragedy. Uniquely written. This is the first time I've read a poem on this subject matter. Well expressed!
