Noble Are They Who Love Liberty

Noble are those (wo)men who love liberty, Who willingly give their lives for a cause Understanding what it means to be free, And in pursuit of their country's serenity Champion others who may never pause, Noble are those (wo)men who love liberty. For many of the privileged class fraternity Believing they are entitled above the laws Understanding what it means to be free Is of no concern, nor what's best in society Do not recognize the folly of their flaws Noble are those (wo)men who love liberty. Our national will is rooted in a lost morality, While decent folk bear a burdensome cross Understanding what it means to be free. Can we live a good life despite inability To save virtue from dishonorable jaws? Noble are those (wo)men who love liberty Understanding what it means to be free.

I love this (wo)men friendly poem which honors both men and women's service as my daughter was once upon a time a Captain in the Air Force.

Thanks, Caren. I feel women do not get enough recognition for their service to our country. I am thankful for your daughter's service!

OK Milton, a gentle "critique"...4th stanza line three a spelling error.... and a poetic suggestion....I think that "(wo)men" could have been eliminated without altering the impact of the poem and made a smoother read.

Thanks so much, John, for pointing out the typo. Perhaps you are right about the flow, but I wanted very much to recognize the role of women specifically. Your "gentle 'critique'" is always welcome, John...never fear!
