No Remorse

He shows no remorse, only pride...
then why do I have mixed feelings arise?

Neither joy, nor sorrow comes to mind
should I mourn, or should I praise?

when forlornly, I hear the familiar,
yet ruthless, yowling, gloating, meowing, ...
coming from outside the kitchen door....

And when I look to see a headless mouse
hanging from the mouth of our old grey cat....
such a scene makes me rather sad....

                                ...instead of glad

Carrie, your latest comments are cracking me up! Don't worry, I often miss a lot here, especially lately. Well, I've seen precious tiny birds, mice, chipmunks and worst of all, even baby bunnies, as the pride and joy of a feline (and even my dog sometimes -ugh!) kill. Why they must present it as a gift, is so vile and disgusting, but yes it is nature's way, and makes me very sad too. Sigh. Love, Shar

You've captured the spirit of the cat showing off its prey. Unfortunately, many headless creatures have been laid at my door. Don't like to look at them, but I must appreciate that they are gifts of "pride" from my cats. Love this poem, Carrie!

Excellent piece, Carrie. The imagery is vivid in this true to life moment. One of my dogs is a good mouser and has preseted me with his catch. I don't like it when they get into the house but I don't like to see their life end either. Well sais, my friend! Love, Robin
