New York City Rats

Rotting eggs, fish, moldy pasta, and meat Mixed with the odor of damp rodent fur. The garbage in bags is lining the street. New York is a city beyond compare. The food that's thrown feeds a population, Not for people, but for rats everywhere. Well-fed and moving are these three million Who run down sidewalks without any care. The mayor has found a good solution- Locked trash cans that keep the rodents from play. When hunger pangs start in great profusion, I want to make sure I am far away.

Hilda, We were parking a car in NYC several months back and observed a rat crawling out of a wheel well of the car parked in front of us. They can chew the wires and leave some motorist with a big repair bill. I've also seen rats walking the street. The mayor is trying to do something that reduces their population, and we'll see what happens. Of course, you know who I think is the biggest rat of them all...(hint it's not the former senator from Delaware (lol)). I couldn't resist--sorry!!

I am trying to not ruin my poems with politics. I like the serene feeling I get from writing. Politics and happiness never seem to agree.

Rats, ancestors of 'Democ-rats.' So much for the 'wonders of evolution.' (Did I just write that? lol.) Anyway, once stayed in Greenwich Village for a few days in 1971. At night I saw a rat as big as a dog. AS BIG AS A DOG. I was gone the next morning. ~ As the World Turns

I liked your comment. I think they call those rats, Norwegian rats They jumped ship many years ago. I think they gave them citizenship.

Ive had some really brutal experiences with rats in the past. I am so scared of them and they are such cunning ones. What a brilliant write this is. You write on so many various subjects in such eloquence. Pleasure always reading your work. Sending you light always

Thank you. Rats are very smart. They seem to be good mothers, however, hygiene is their problem. I realize they do bite, as do most animals. Handle with care.

I don't live in New York, but even here in Utah, we have rats. The difference is that we more easily control our (adorable) pack rats.
