Notes About The Poem

New Year-Celebration of a Different Kind

A CORNISH SONNET

Fireworks explosions and toasts of good cheer,
celebrate with kisses at midnight's stroke.
Joyous welcome of another New Year,
couples all dressed up and drinking champagne.
Wife at my side, I'm a lucky old bloke,
walking the beach while the world goes insane.

We needed a reason to celebrate
in a secluded place where we could think.
So we chose an island to contemplate
what life might hold for us in the new year.
Marriage in shambles, nearly on the brink
of losing all the love that we hold dear.

Fireworks explosions, and toasts of good cheer.
We needed a reason to celebrate.

Love the way that Marital Piano drops from a great height into your parade in this piece, Lin, certainly different. Well done on coping with this, in my humble opinion, tricky form. Viv x
