New Year

There is but one regret: Seeing you cry as you walked away, Never to see you again this year. Why should a new year Hurt like a gun, Aimed but not fired? Why does love seemingly have to hurt? Can’t we all live in peace, With no separations, Not even for such a happy holiday As Christmas is, nay, Christmas is not happy, not for those Whose hearts were broken On the very day That they are replenished With His spirit and theirs. Can love be kinder To those who have suffered At its hands? Could it be possible To love without harm?
