New In Town

If you are new, making friends is all ON you. They do not care. They are established. They have their friends. Be careful though. If you try too hard, they will think something is wrong with you. If you do not try hard enough, they will say that you are stuck up, unfriendly, snotty, rude. Weirdly enough, there is an exact middle of the road balance you have to find. The trick is, that each neighbor’s middle of the road spot is unique. So you have to be a great people-reader in order to make new friends at all. Good luck new neighbor.

This is so true...you do have to be a great, "people-reader"; otherwise you'll end up in trouble, somehow.

I always end up in trouble anyway, because I want to believe everyone, and so I do. I will not go into details as it has happened so splendidly often.

There is such a thin line of tolerance, and you have to tread so lightly but not too lightly, or they think you do not want friends. Very sad how difficult it is.

Interesting, and so true in most places...I was lucky once, 32 years ago, to come to a very tight-knit neighborhood, West Rogers Park in Chicago, which welcomed me with open arms. And that's why I still live in that neighborhood today.

And that is exactly what I would have done also. When I find "my tribe" I find "my tribe" and no one is going to pry me away from them. And I mean no one. That is wonderful! I am happy for you because it is a terrific place to be.
