Never Was - POTD
well, boy met girl...
that's as far as that went;
the storybook page left blank
by misfortune's inkless pen
alas, fate was unkind.
no flame was forged
to write "forever" in their eyes,
instantaneous spark of attraction
from shy boy
turns to slithering smoke
his true feelings,
indefinitely arrested.
too tongue-tied was he
to bravely wander barefoot
into the badland of "I tried, but no dice!"
what difference would that have made?
it's anyone's guess
time to pounce crept away
his prolonged war with silence, lost
his almost-girl now belongs
to another boy,
the blueprint to a future
remains just a paper.
dreams he dreamt - with her
sparkling like a diamond in them - .
constructed out of....
"never was"
d e s t i n y
struck its gavel...
it was for the best
c' est la vie.
