Native American Prayer

Oh Great Spirit whose voice I hear in the winds and whose breath gives life to everyone, hear me. I come to you as one of your children. I am weak. I am small. I need your wisdom and your strength. Let me walk in beauty, and make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunsets. Make my head respect the things you have made and make my ears sharp so that I may hear your voice. Make me wise so that I may understand what you have taught my people and the lessons you have hidden in each leaf and each rock. I ask for wisdom and strength. not to be superior to my brothers but to fight my greatest enemy, myself. Make me ever ready to come before you with clean hands and a straight eye, so as life fades away as a fading sunset, my spirit may come to you without shame. Yakoke Copyright © by Scarlett Anderson

Native Americans were spiritually light years ahead of us in their faith and unity with nature. We were the savages. Vince

Dear Scarlett, A prayer of such wisdom and yearning. I especially like the second stanza from the bottom. , 'I ask for wisdom and strength, not to be superior to my brothers, but to fight my greatest enemy, myself'. If only we would all do that, there would be peace on earth. Love, Lainie . Your poetry reminds me of the poetry of one of the Greats in Canadian History ' Pauline Johnson'. If you get a chance look her up on the net.

Dear Scarlett, this is a beautiful Prayer. Thank you for sharing and thank you for your kind comments on my writing. Regarding your Life story, my dear - just right what you recall from your earliest memory, tell it as it really happened and convey the feelings like you do in your poetry. I would be happy to read it as you write it and help you that way. When you are ready to do that send me a soupmail and I will soupmail you back with my email address. Love, Lainie
