E   xpects people to reciprocate in kind

Nah, you are not naive, my friend. Like me, you probably look more for the good in a person than for the bad. In time we learn to be more careful, especially after being let down or suffer a broken heart! Regards & Hugs // paul

wow, putting that last little line made it so personal. I hardly think you are naive, though , like many of us, you are trusting, and I think we all need to be that way. Otherwise, how could we ever learn to trust. GREAT acrostic, Eileen, and congrats for your win.

I enjoyed reading all the responses. As for me I will choose not to harden my skin. I will maintain my innocence, I will accept that I will feel hurt. I will love myself and others through that hurt until my heart will sing praises to my heavenly father who has made us all. You have done a great job bringing out people's emotions Eileen. We all suffer disappointments at times, people are unpredictable. Even the background check can mean nothing, go with your instincts. Excellent poem. Take care, Richard

Nothing wrong in admitting you are who you are.. A BIT NAIVE....My daughter's one Naive gal..
