Can't empty bowls be filled with rice each day? Whatever ever age, gender, color, or creed That mankind’s dire hunger be swept away, Not by crumbs when wheatfields are lush, indeed. While harvest of earth is bounty, divine Millions cease to exist from starvation . How to allay famine, a dreadful sign When nature endows all without ration ? The world yields enough crops through sun or rain And river beds swim with fish of seasons Providing decent meals from nourished grain. Then why this famish for selfish reasons? Man grows afraid ....yet, this is my prayer: That food NOT be used as greed for money, But life's blessing, God’s gift equal and fair, And nail this curse," wipe off trade’s gluttony!" Fear ll Contest, Debbie Guzzi --------------- * The United Nations estimates that about 795 million people of the 7.3 billion people in the world, or one in nine, were suffering from chronic undernourishment in 2014-2016. *It is believed that a principal underlying cause of poverty and hunger is the operation of economic systems in the world that resources end up in the hands of a rich minority.

Congratulations, Nette on your win. Yes, economists say that famines are caused not by crop failures but by manipulated faulty distribution system.

Congratulations on this entry that says so very much needed to be said. Hunger should be a fear of everyone, especially since it is corporately controlled. Good write.

wow, what a poem! Friends and I have often thought in disgust at the way we throw away food here in the US... how fast food restaurants toss out waste each night because it wasn't bought. Or schools allow children to throw out the unopened fruit instead of washing it for reuse or given to the poor... the bottom line is that most people don't care or don't know where to begin lifting a finger for others. it starts with us.

Nette, I hate that anyone should go hungry or thirsty :( I like your take on this theme. Everyone got a first place win as this was a challenge more than a contest. Thank you for your participation. Hugs

This breaks my heart and I wish I could help feed the world. I give but I never feel it is enough. I have never been on the streets but we were pretty poor and ate a whole lot of potato soup. I feel for all who go hungry in this world. Your poem is beautifully written and deserves your first placement Nette. Congratulations! 7 ; )

Again, scraping my heart, making me realize what I need to see. The poor, the forgotten---they are everywhere, yet do we care? We must! Astounding poem that calls for action.

Ah, greed again rears his ugly head. Just the scraps from our dinner tables alone could feed all of the hungry right here in the US. A wonderful informative and well written poem, Nette. The beauty of your heart is on display!
