My Winter

Occasional cloudiness but lots of wintry sun light with mixtures of foggy, slippery, soggy, dry and wet days. Such would be my 'one line' portrait of 'my neck of the woods'. There is a subtle hazard on the roads when the rainy season begins in the fall. It has been dry for so long that there is an unseen buildup of residue on the pavement that becomes slippery when wet. It's not as bad as dry ice, but it is an invisible deceiver. It seems people in my area drive faster when it rains. Or maybe it's that they drive the same speed as I slow done considerably. The fog seems to be accompanied with drivers who always see more than me; but I'm not jealous as I watch them go rapidly by. I'm usually whispering a prayer for them because only God knows what lies ahead for them. Often, it's not good. If I'm caught in a fog by night or by day, I seek to fetch my eyes to the tail lights of a big rig and stay close till I'm in the vicinity of something resembling my destination. Cloudiness is a given, but there are plenty of sunny days. Receiving more than enough water from our heavenly Father, my lawn is greener than any other season of the year. I have great respect for the rainy season which often bring floods, mudslides, and fallen trees. Every year I worry about the large fruitless mulberry tree in my front yard. I always pray that it doesn't fall. I have been fortunate to have never experienced flooding in my home, but there have been winters when flood waters reached high up onto our driveway. Always scary. I do not miss the icy cold winters of Chicago, Mississippi, or Wisconsin which I have once known. I have seen a few flakes of snow doing my 30 year tenure here, but snow is almost none existent in Sacramento. There are a few really cold days, and some nights freeze. In a former residence we occasionally lit the fire place, but the local ordinance seeking to minimize winter pollution became such a nuisance that we discontinued using the fireplace. Realizing there are adverse weather factors where ever one resides, I am rather content and very pleased with my Sacramento winters. 11172017PSContest, My Winter, Viv Wiglet, 6P
