Notes About The Poem

For "My Truths" Contest of Constance La France

My Truths

“What wisdom can you find that is greater than kindness?” – Jean-Jacques Rousseau
I have not got many truths. Gray can blur lines of white and black yet there are things that instinctively I know as right, and also there are things so wicked I can never even let them touch my soul. Never could I ever take delight in another person’s suffering. Life is sacred; I cannot fathom the depravity such as that of ancient Roman masses mercilessly cheering for the murder of slaves, Christians, and even that of criminals deserving of death. I abhor cruelty in all its myriad, varied forms. I believe ill will we wish on others (even our small acts of meanness) - will revisit us, either now or after death. My truths consist of sincerity, kindness, and love.

Beautiful truth and full of the kindness you always show forth. I am in complete agreement about visiting cruelty on others. I don't believe anyone deserves to suffer for any reason. Some deserve to be banned from society or sent on to the afterlife, yes. But never in such a way as to stoop to their level of wickedness. Bravo! Congratulations! Xo

I agree. Suffering I can feel right in my abs, no matter an adult, child or animal. It is sad that some are so cold-hearted. We need strong people too but they need to have an ethic, a care.. Well said, sweet Andrea! All the more admiration we have for you, my friend!

I wish I were as empathetic as you, Kim. Can you imagine if we felt the true suffering of anyone we came across? It would be misery with no end. It makes me appreciate all the more how Jesus took all our sins upon Himself in the Garden.

Good morning Andrea, Deeply moving poem for these times we live in. And so applicable to times we live in. Thank you. Since time began, evil walks this earth and never ends. Whether in thought, word or deed, Hugs, or Pangie
