My Truths

                         I am not a perfect girl,
            and so often I fail with the truth;
I thrive for sincerity, honesty, integrity, openness and for genuineness,
and know what my wisdom gathered says about being truthful
                         And I know right and wrong,
I know what I have read in the Bible scriptures;
but sometimes I have lied to protect another persons soul.
      Have said that I didn't cry when I definitely did,
            denied my biggest fear and deep hidden secrets;
                          and the life mistakes- I made.
Yes, a thing is either true or it is not.
but my spiritual self and soul wavers on this often;
       for sometimes the truth is hurtful
                         like when my mother asked- Will I die ?

Yes, sometimes answering a question truthfully can be hurtful for both parties involved but sometimes the subject needs to be discussed. Thanks for sharing this one with us. Sara K

Sara, thank you for the comment, yes sometimes the truth is important to tell, but sometimes, the truth will not change the outcome except to hurt a person. I guess each situation must be thought about before speaking, love Constance

True words written so boldly, so honestly on the part of the poet. You boil it down to loving our neighbor as we love ourselves. And in Proverbs 6, God mentions the sin of lying two times in the same passage. Lying is wrong even when the truth is painful; fine lines must be drawn. Check Soup Mail.

Reason, thank you for the wonderful comment, and compliment, yes, lying is never right but to lie to someone you love, is so hard, even if it is to spare them heartache, blessings Constance

Dear Constance, It is hard not to tell little white lies occasionally to protect someone. I suppose in times of war, there are probably many lies told by the persecuted people. I loved reading your poem because it is such a great question. God knows all, and He knows our hearts. Autumn Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel

They say if you don't want to hurt someone, don't lie, just don't answer. Like you, I have found it easier to give comfort. At least, I never have to answer "will I die". More so, with age, I will probably have to ask it for myself.

Hilda, my mother asked me that question, I knew the answer but could not say it, so I lied (I think she knew the answer too) she only smiled at me, thank you for the comment, love Constance
