My Son

No longer an orphan, my son, please know That I will comfort your nights when fears call, And teach kindness along the way, although I'd let you brave life's challenge after all… Yet kind we'd be, heart to heart, side by side Playing rough- ball as any boy would do : I’m now your father, your strength and your guide Then hopefully the hero you'll pursue... See, I am told that kids grow up quite fast That one day it will be you in my place-- Forsaken you’re not, I'll do my best to cast A mirror of me which fate can’t erase. Let seasons bring us more joy as we roam In a place where love abides; this is home. Your Best Sonnet 2018 Contest for John Hamilton Written 6/16/2018 Resubmitted 7/05/2018

So tender! I interpreted it as an adoptive father reassuring his "new" son, but I may have it wrong.

I love the line,"cast an image of me the years can't erase". I think that would be every father's prayer. Well done, nette and good luck:)
