My Shackled Heart

O Memory I beg you set me free; remove these binding shackles from my heart. My recollections won’t you let me be; allow my life to have a brand new start. ‘Twas just a year ago my love walked out in search of greener pastures for to lie; to find herself and left me here to doubt, and try to understand the reasons why. My mind is filled with lonely memories; the springtime of our love and times we shared, and how her passions always tried to please, but now I wonder if she ever cared. Release me now O cruel Memory; allow my lonely heart to be set free. April 24, 2018

This touched me very deeply, John. I once had a love such as this, and the memories keep breaking my heart. Love buries itself inside a wounded heart. This is a wonderful sonnet.

Thank you for your comments, Lin. Sorry if I dredged up memories you’d rather forget; I think we all probably have these memories of past relationships particularly when we were young. They lead us to ask a lot of “what if’s.” John

If only there were away to eradicate the self doubts after a love has walked out of our lives. A very touching sonnet, John, that illustrates the feelings so many of us have had. Hugs, Carolyn

My grandmother never healed after her husband walked out, John. She lost it. I admire those who are able to move forward. Compelling poem!

Thanks for your comments and visit, Carolyn, I think it would be impossible to eradicate the self-doubt when someone leaves you for another; fortunately, time heals these wounds and we learn to trust and love once again. John

Thank you so much, Pixie, actually my broken relationship was 38 years and I’m quite over it but I do appreciate the prayers, I can always use them. I’m pleased that you were able to feel those emotions in my write, that tells me my sonnet was written well. The experiences from long ago help to convey those feelings. Thank you for your visit! John
