My selfish Grief
So then, my grief, what do you want of me?
To give my self up to your black despair?
Or hide away from every memory
that leaps from every corner of this fair
but heartbroken home we shared together?
To run from friends, to shun all human life,
avoid all mention of that day – never
remembering that once I had a wife?
Oh no, my selfish grief, you will not take
the happiness, the joy, the love she brought
into my world. That you will never break.
This is a lesson learnt, a battle fought.
The time for tears has passed though may return.
Never forget, this painful lesson learn
