My Own Superman

I thought of myself as a damsel in distress, As someone who needed saving, And as I fell deeper and deeper I wondered who would catch me. Time passed and as I fell I saw a sliver of light, I tore back the paper and realized I could fight my own fight. I could save myself. I don’t need superman to sweep me off my feet, I just need me. Because ‘ME’ is who I want to be and ‘ME’ wants to be free, And how can I be free if I keep expecting someone else to save me? I don’t need a man. I don’t need to hold your hand. I don’t need you to help me stand. I CAN wear the cape, I CAN rock the tights, I CAN fly. I CAN do it ALL, As long as I remember, I’m not the damsel in distress, I don’t need you to catch my fall, I CAN do it all.

That means so much to me, the support on this website is unbelievable. I was so shy about showing my work before, so I took a chance here. Obviously I am not as well versed as all of you but I hope to become better through speaking with my new poetry soup friends, such as you, and receiving feedback. I can't wait to read your work and speak to you more! Thank you, B

Oh, that's fine! I usually go by my middle name Ariel and was just figuring out what would make copyright problems easier. It is Bianca, no need to apologize!
