Notes About The Poem

My Music Wonderland

It seems, in truth, that I'm such a glutton,
For a pulsing, lighted or sliding button.

Christmas, for me? An arriving shipment,
Boxes packed full with musical equipment!

Nothing can compare with the digital glow,
          Of rack-mounted processors, row-on-row.

Is there no surer proof of a world in order,
Than dancing lights on a multi-track recorder?

And how could you decorate a room any cuter,
Than guitars on the walls and a laptop computer?

Near-field monitors and microphones aplenty,
So, to whet the whistles of music cognoscenti.

Keyboards, amplifiers, drum machines, effects,
Mood lights to decide what track to add next.

Well, it may not sound like YOUR place to be,
But this shimmering scene is heaven to me!

And what's so fine about this electronic roost?
Well, it's a place where musical dreams ...

Are produced!

* SECOND PLACE in the "Meraki" Poetry Contest, Silent One, Sponsor. *

(I am and will always be, a musician/songwriter, first-and-foremost, and while performing is my second love, [and poetry a close third], there's nothing for me like the creative process - writing, recording, producing songs in the studio - laying down the tracks one-by-one, layering the instruments and voices, building and watching/hearing the song take shape, and mastering the final production - in control of every facet ... looking back at the incredible amount of time and work involved, and feeling proud of that musical piece of you that you can listen to and share with the world ... there is nothing like it, and the lights of the studio equipment are, for me, like a Christmas all my own, and the dancing pixies of a wonderland of sound and melody - my meraki, indeed!)

I loved this Greg, I too love to create music but really don't have the skills other than being able to read music, and play trumpet, although now I can't blow any more(asthma). It's a dream of mine to have a song of mine produced, although I've had three recorded I'm not happy with any of them.

Thank you so much, my friend, and perhaps one day soon we can get one of yours recorded - I love to produce for others, and maybe you'd let me take a stab at one? That would be fun, I think, and I love your lyrics! :-)

Merry Christmas, Eve - I hope it was a wonderful day for you and yours! And thank you for liking my little foray into my "pulse", my little magical corner of the world ... we all have our refuge, and that is it for me, (as Poetry Soup has also become). Blessings, Dear Friend! :-) <3

And I can boost and others be goosed into writing poems. I have a Gibson Folk Classical F-20 and bought a Goya for my wife when we loved Sound of Music. I still can barely play though.

Never too old to start, my friend ... I have a buddy who didn't pick up a guitar until he was 58, and he's now playing Jazz at a high level. Music is ageless ... and those are some nice axes! Go for it, James! Blessings! :-)

Oh, thank you so much, my good friend, you are very kind to me ... ENJOYING music is what's important. It's just a language all its own, and one that not everyone was given the ability to write, but we can all SPEAK and appreciate that language in our hearts, I believe. Blessings to you, my brother! :-)

"Filipina Girl" has no vocals or sax solo, but it will give you an idea of the quality of work I'm doing now. :-)

Thank you, Leanne - my music is under my moniker "Bahku" and my web site is www.bahku.com, but please keep in mind that MOST of those recordings were made in my apartment on a four-track cassette deck over 30 years ago - I am a MUCH better musician than I was then. A couple of those songs are being re-worked for the album, and one ("Filipina Girl") is unfinished but the one I'm working on now that will be my first CD single on Hollywood Records ... the album will be released on December 15, 2018, so much work to do between now and then. Blessings, my friend!

When work is in your blood and adrenaline fed, your are laboring from your true, eternal spirit and that is how God intended work to be, from creative core. All my opinion, that and that you are blessed to have manifested your dream rush in to reality. Of course, I've no clue if this is your day job, but I hope so. Love the joy, love the poem, it has spark, enthusiasm convincingly delivered in glow and rhyme that are both prime. All the best ... CayCay

Such a sweet and heart-felt comment, CayCay, and I so appreciate it ... I believe the same way - that God intended work to be such, because it shouldn't FEEL like work. I often get working in the studio and go for sixteen or eighteen hours, and it's ALL joy. Yes, it is my day job now ... I am a Pharmacist and Gemologist as well, but have retired from those to work on music full-time, (and poetry), and I have an album set for release next Christmas (December 15, 2018) and two CD single releases before then, so a lot of work to do. My music is under my moniker (Bahku) and my web site is www.bahku.com, though most of those recordings were made over 30 years ago, and I am a MUCH better musician than I was then. Thank you so much for the kindness, dear friend! :-) <3
