My Last Coloured Balloon
Listen to poem:
Porcelain eyes and fragile smiles
So disillusioned
Gone the days of glorious ambition
When I stood tall
Fire in my eyes
God knows I’ve made mistakes
Some more naïve than others
Some less forgivable than others
I really thought I’d be young forever
Till one day I watched the last of my dreams
Drift idle from my grasp
Like my last coloured balloon
And the string way out of my reach
It was then that I knew
I had gambled my freedom
And lost
I had sold my soul
For someone’s empty dreams and promises
I’d been cheated and defeated
Broken just like my illusions
Again empty and shattered
I had lost it all
Just a shadow of dignity left to build on
