My Hero Is 99
I can imagine a civilized society without policemen; but it would be one filled with chaos, killings, and mayhem.
I can imagine a world without Christ or Christian influence; but it would be sad and filled with confusion and spiritual madness.
Heroes have a courageous spirit, special abilities, and a noble character. Heroes challenge and inspire us to be greater and to do greater things.
Yes, I can imagine a society filled with heroes enough for every boy and girl; but they would not be Hollywood stars, entertainers, or professional athletes. They'd be statesmen and patriots, nurses and farmers, parents and grandparents. They would be babysitters and childcare workers, not power mongers and politicians. Yes, they would be teachers and preachers, policemen and firemen, cooks and doctors.
Were I ever tempted to write a book about heroes, in short order, I would realize that I could not fill a book. In fact, I would quickly be convinced that one page would suffice.
Most of my heroes would be unknown by the general public. Let me tell you about my well-known hero that recently turned 99. Billy Graham inspired me greatly over many years. He was courageous enough to step outside of the Southern Jim Crow box. In an age of philosophy and positive thinking, he would simply say, "The Bible says". He was unafraid to be an ear and a voice for God to any and all persuasions. Where have the heroes gone? Mine is yet alive at the age of 99.
