Hello, my name is Pearl Smudges and I am a cat I live in a beautiful apartment in an old building With My Girl and until recently Violet Patches One day My Girl got the cat carrier out She put Violet Patches inside and left When she came back the carrier was empty And she was weeping I rolled myself up in my blanket for three days Slowly, sadly we are coming to terms with our loss The end of grieving is just within reach ________________________________ April 12, 2015 Poetry/Personification/My Girl And Me Copyright Protected, ID 04-662-582-12 All Rights Reserved, 2015, Constance La France For the Standard contest, Just Within Reach, sponsor, John Lawless, Judged 05/2015 Fourth Place

Congratulations on your win; I am allergic to cats although I do love them and think they are amazing. I tell my daughter that I have an imaginary cat named Spud--It provides a lot of humor for us. Well done.

BW, my heartfelt congratulations to you for your nice win for this lovely poem. Our pets are part of our family for sure, and when they leave us it is devastating...been there with my wonderful cats. You expressed your "just within reach"with such emotion and beauty. Hugs, Sandra

Lovely! Have a rescue cat who is now about 16 I think. Also have a rescue shepard/pomeranian mix named KiraKira which is Japanese for "little bright eyes."

How sweet and heartfelt, Constance. I love how you wrote from your kitty's perspective ..pets are so intelligent and sensitive to our feelings, and of course, they grieve, too...hugs, Rhonda

What a touching poem! There are still days when I cry for the companionship of my Katy Cat. I want to believe that, as you say, "The end of grieving is just within reach." A beautifully penned entry for John's contest. Hugs, Carolyn

Heart to heart, .....I have often felt the kinship between animal and human....the compassion is in the eye, and the comfort is in the love. :) Beautiful!
