Thank heavens for Mr. Roget
I need him almost every day
I would not know what to say
Without my friend Mr. Roget!

You can say that again! And, I probably will. I keep my writing reference books right above my computer. To me, they are like Ft. Knox, full of gold.

Sorry Milt, I just re-watched the scene from the movie "The Life of Brian"(a Monte Python masterpiece) where the roman centurion corrects the graffiti and make him write the corrected slogan 100 times....a la the crazed latin teachers of old....

I have the perfect response, professor, but I'll retrain myself. I do love word puzzles and games and have played them all my life. I even enjoy vocabulary quizzes, so I don't have to refer to Roget often, but when I'm stumped (and to keep using the same words over and over) I do check him out from time to time. I even recommend him to budding poets. Thanks, John!

So your not a human library after all Milton, Yes we all have our little friends, Roget was the original, now it's Siri and Alexa, as reference pointers, clever stuff cheers David

Thanks, David. But, I'll have to admit, I don't turn to any reference book until I have completely exhausted my own abilities. Truthfully, Roget is generally a last resort...but he rhymed!!!! I have done crossword puzzles and played word games all my life, so I suppose I do have a fair, basic vocabulary.
