My First Love
I'm running from the darkness that follows me everywhere I turn,
I stumble, and then the darkness engulfs me.
I'm shivering in the dark and replaying scenes of my dark and bitter past,
The past I don't want to remember.
I'm looking for a way out but that's hard to find.
I've tried looking for a light, but the one I've found doesn't seem to shine.
I'm crumbling, breaking down because the walls of my mind aren't strong enough to keep me sane,
This darkness is seemingly seeping into my bones; it's filling my lungs with poisoned air...
I can't breathe.
And just when reality begins to fade away,
I see You.
The Son of Man come to save the lost,
The Light of the world fearlessly stepping down into darkness,
The King of Kings, who comes to restore hope to the poor.
You walk through the shadows surrounding me,
And even the darkness gives way to You.
You hold my hand and tell me, "Trust me, my timing's perfect".
And then I realize the truth,
I just needed to turn to Him,
To ask for His help, for Him to guide me...
For Him to be mine,
And me, His.
