My Final Prison (English Sonnet)

I awake to the dawn of a new day
I wonder what this day will bring to me
I reckon I should start off with a prayer
I feel as empty as my barren tree

I’m drifting back through the years of my past
I don’t know what I’m hoping to find
Perhaps something that I missed long ago
That is secretly plaguing my lost mind

I pray my mind is not forever lost
As I quietly stumble through my past
Trying so very hard to find away
To forever shatter my homeboy mask

My mind now holds me in captivity
I pray my heart and soul can set it free

Your mind is definitely not forever lost. The one you tried to cover has emerged. Thank you.

Congratulations on your win in Brian's contest, Michael. A very heartfelt Sonnet. Maude loves your book and has loaned it to a freind who really needs it. Your writing is a gift, dear Michael that helps others and that is a very special gift. yf4l Lainie

Never forever lost, not you, not anymore. You are a light for many - overcoming is what you do, and well at that. :) Love, Kristin

Michael you have accomplished so much, you need to focus on your life as it is today.I know it is hard to look back and see how much time you wasted and things that you would have wanted to do differently..Be proud and always hold your head up high, you have come so far, too far to look back, only good things ahead..Another wonderfully written poem pouring out your soul..Thank you so much for the lovely words and inspiration you give me, God Bless you and your family..*Tyesha

The 3rd verse is my favorite Michael, and the last one really brings home your very deep feelings. Very nicely done :-)
