LIsten to this crazy fave song of mine from the album: Mama Told Me (Not to Come):

Collecting 45's, I could not wait for albums of groups' greatest hits to be released; one band I thought was pretty great put out the album most well-liked by me. Its psychedelic cover art was cool. And Golden Bisquits was the album’s name. I listened very often after school to those songs that enjoyed radio fame. “One,” (the Loneliest Number), fed into my teenage angst; there was another song called “Easy to be Hard.” When I was blue those were the songs with which I’d sing along. A song of novelty I loved to hear entitled “Mama Told Me Not to Come.” The singer, in a silly voice, feigned fear of a party that he should escape from! Twelve songs in all, romantic mostly, and the album had that seventies rock beat. It was the best deal I would ever get of all my high school records. It was grand! My 45’s and albums to this day are in a closet. I don’t feel it’s right to trash my youth. How could I throw away good memories in songs by Three Dog Night? Written 9/4/16 for Phillip Garcia's Rock 'n Roll Rhyme Fest poetry contest (See above for links to songs off the album

Loved this tribute to one of the best 70's bands, and I really enjoyed the song you chose to attach to it. I never owned an album by Three Dog Night except their greatest hits, which I love. I should see if I can buy some of their studio releases. My favorite of theirs is "Just An Old Fashioned Love Song". Great write!

OMG! Reading your poem and the comments took me back fifty plus years. Songs I haven't heard in forever. I too, still have a stack of 45s and 33s. Three Dog Night was my brothers fav band and he's 11 years younger then me. But the old times - remain sweetest in memory.

Did I tell you my son, Arthur, did a show and a recording with The Grateful Dead? You know me - I am a stuffed shirt long hair, but I had my collection of favorites when I was younger. The idea is enjoyment. You be a honey. Love, Dave

Great write and a great choice, you hip dude you, I had similar feelings toward 'smokin' in the boys room' by Brownsville station, from 1973. It has a sense of time and place. I'm sure your homage will do well, Viv x

You still have your 45's with the little yellow adaptor? I remember hearing "One" with friends at a neighborhood soda fountain that served the best egg creams and chocolate sodas. Good luck, Andrea! :-)

sorry, I don't know anything about a little yellow adapter. I got a cool jukebox in the 90's for our basement but it konked out on us. I need to find someone who can fix it so I can play my oldies!!

Oh man! How about "Liar" and "Eli's Comin" two of my all time favorites. You really took me back with this one, Andrea. They definitely were hot back in the day. Of course music began to get a little harder. Thanks for the memories:):)

THREE DOG NIGHT was the first band I ever saw live and I know every song on that album! You presented the band and songs that touched our pre-teen and teen hearts so very much that they still move us today in a very realistic, all encompassing, nostalgic write. I long ago lost 45s and albums with no clue as to where. Sure would love to have my Herman Hermits! CayCay

Some great memories...I remember taking one of my sisters disco records to Disco Demolition hosted by Steve Dahl. It was a doubleheader baseball game Chicago White Sox vs Detroit Tigers. If you brought a record it was 97 cents to get in. He blew up the records between games and that day went down in infamy.

oh yes, I loved that one too. But the judge of this contest did not give us enough lines to talk about all the songs!
