My Burdens Lie Within
My life in time will soon unwind
As a callous Death will have his way
And despite my plans... I understand...
Today could be the day.
My baggage is extensive.
My burdens lie within.
It's not my place... to hope there's space
For all my Earthly sins.
If Death should come by wagon...
Make it large as one can see.
I have a myriad of privations and afflictions
Eagerly intent to follow me.
If Death should come by sailboat
With its mast nibbling at the moon.
Please lay waste all precious cargo...
I will need the extra room.
I have enough misery and misfortune
To load a thousand camels twenty times
Where my excess and weird obsessions
Far outweigh my other crimes.
I have bags filled with untold sorrow
Of thoughts I should have taken back
But before I leave this life I've trampled...
I'm just saying... I've got a load of crap.
If Death should stumble on this musing...
I warn you things will not go smooth.
When my time is done and you think you've won...
You still have to help me move.
I don't pretend to know Death's process
When a mortal meets their timely end.
But with all the baggage I have for the afterlife...
I suggest he bring a friend.
The End
*Written from the perspective of someone who believes their sins follow them into the afterlife.
*Only a real friend will help you move so take from that what you will.
