Notes About The Poem

Poem of the day awarded 21st September 2024

My Brother

A picture hung upon the parlour wall Of a brother I'd never met at all Tony was the eldest child in the nest Loved, cherished, by parents truly blessed. Sadly Tony had lived for just four years His passing left enormous grief and tears Though I'm one of five sisters, ever dear How I wish that my brother was still here. We’d visit the grave often on Sundays Where sweet smelling flowers each sister laid We all said prayers asking the Holy One To gently care for our brother and son. Now Tony’s sitting on my parlour wall And my sisters, so that I can recall The memories we made along life's way Though none of Tony, so sorry to say. I often wonder how life would have been If my brother had remained on the scene.

A well-deserved touching and profoundly resonant tribute, Beryl As they say the cost of love is grief especially the loss of a child, I just lost my brother two weeks ago. Congratulations on the POTD honor! My best, Robert

Thank you so much Ink, I’m sorry to read that you lost your young cousin when you were about 4, it’s such an awful thing to happen. That picture on the wall of Tony, now on mine, was and is a constant reminder of him, I was told he was a bright energetic soul, dearly loved for his heart of gold…. Beryl

Dear Beryl, what a wonderful tribute to your dear brother that expresses that loss and “what ifs” so well. Our first child was lost due to miscarriage and it was a boy. God then gave us 3 girls and now 3 granddaughters and oh what joy. Though sometimes I wonder. - Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel

Thank you Tom, our brother is definitely not forgotten, my eldest sister has vague memories of him, though she was only two years old when Tony ran across the road and got run over and killed, our parents talked of him often. Pleased you had a great time on holiday… Beryl
