Notes About The Poem

Muted

Speak stronger and louder with outrage assert
Right, Left or inane, it keeps us alert
Our First Amendment rights
Can be shorn overnight
When the Man shouts “quiet and you won’t get hurt!”

Hmmm reading the comments below, I think I see freedom of the press being shorn in a different way. Great poem anyway. Corruption is in many places.

We can agree on the concept of freedom of speech, as guaranteed by the first amendment. Have a pleasant day, Andrea!

I enjoyed reading this one today, Robert. Thank you for sharing it with us. I enjoy so many liberties that don't even know exactly which ones I have. I need to refresh my memory. Sara K

We are truly blessed that we are only one of a few countries in the world who have such rights. Let us be vigilante in keeping them. Thx for your kind visit. Have a pleasant day! Robert

Robert, many of us appreciate free speech. As you point out, when free speech means only that which the Man wants to hear, we're in big trouble. I'm going to three demonstrations on a weekly basis, and this more than anything is what it's all about. Hope more people get the significance of what we are in the midst of. Smiles!!

Colbert, Kimmel, and Comey—sounds like a children’s tale, but I’m afraid it’s just the first chapter in as American tragedy. Always good to hear from you, Robert

I'm outraged, they took Jimmy Kimmel off the air, showing us a power of privileged narcisism despair. The first amendment right is what keeps us above the rest from the nation's of dictatorship. What have we become? We must speak up and fight for freedom of speech....we saw this coming, like domino's the rest shall be pulled off as well. One of your best & most important political limericks! xhugs

If we don't tolerate those we don't agree with, we lose out democracy. Your outline disposition, you have forth, of this reality, quite succinctly. As always quite cognate. Thank you, Anaya. Robert

We will keep speaking. But how sad to have to be shot down for it.

True! But without integrity, we forfeit our souls. "This above all, to thine own self be true" Shakespeare. Appreciate your visit Andrea. Robert
