Multiflora Rose
The rambling rose
she had nurtured with pain.
Now a Mockingbirds nest
it wears in its canes.
Through its unkept years
it seems to sense change.
Now, no one cuts its flowers
or its branches arrange.
As it spread down the fence
her attention it did crave.
Its canes just kept running
to a trellis above her grave.
Now, it casts a faint shadow
as if seeming to say.
You cared for me once
I will shade you today.
