When the time of year comes for the hyacinths to blossom, I think of mother who loved that flower..

mourning pain exposed a weight of melancholy ushered by flowers pink hyacinth's fragrant buds blossoms of memories flood

this is a poignant and beautiful tanka, the last line is particularly good...i think you're good at forms like tanka and haiku; you have a gift for capturing snapshot moments - congrats on your win :)

I read through comments below and saw that I had seen this one before. I just knew it looked familiar. you were wise to put this one in my contest because I think it is a beautiful example of a sad tanka. Congrats in my contest, Sara.
