Motherhood

A mother strives to love her child, To shield it from the woes and cares, The strife and hardship man endures. The world is full of traps and snares That Mother always frights away, The evil beast that haunts our dreams. We run to her in times of need But turn away when she needs us. March 1984

Mum Knows best, we've all heard that. But we know better, until the time comes when we realise that Mum did know better. She taught from life we learn to pass it on. The world turns. Good write Jules. God Bless. D.

First, thanks for commenting on my poem. Your poem is most excellent, with profound moral message that all must heed. In the East, we have a saying that: of the many hundreds of different virtues, filial piety is the foremost. Moreover, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva represents the virtues of filial piety, propriety and kindness. Welcome to Poetry Soup!

Thank you, Brian. I appreciate your comments very much. Yes, you are right. Filial piety, propriety and kindness are all qualities to aspire to. I struggle sometimes with both sides of that virtue - being the best kind of mother and the best kind of daughter. Perhaps that is why your poem registered with me.
