Morning from Shadows

A fellow poet says
don’t start a poem
with looking out the window
but I am—

I am
looking out
the window
to see the lawn
outside my window
has grown.

A neighbor says
there are too many
verses on love,
but restless
I tap laptop
keys to compose
another.

My friend
who transferred
from where I work
to another place—

I saw her last week

and I’m lost reflections
of being with
and without love.

When I saw her
at the front counter
I said hello in passing
and when I went
to check out

she was waiting for me.

I told her I had to get
something from the car

and when I came back
her boss said that she
sent my friend
to lunch break.

I laughed and said
everybody’s got to eat
and had to admit
I knew my friend
from another store.

Now
I look out the window
and a bird trills a song
for words unsaid
and I look
into the light
of a brilliant sun.

Mike, this is very sweet and gentle. Sounds to me like the subject individual is mildly attracted to this person or at least you feel some chemistry. If it were I, and I were not in an exclusive relationship, I might try to arrange for a simple date or at least go back and try to strike up a conversation. What's the worst that could happen?

Ahhh the possibilities. And I believe it was the Paulster who wrote: "Some people want to fill the world with silly love songs. What's wrong with that?" Awesome poem
