Morning

MORNING

Good morning World.

Damn you!
and your warm
sunray fingers
prying open my eyes.

Robbing me of my
nocturnal fantasies,
my semiconscious bliss.

Leaving the remnants
of my peace
and tranquillity
laying scattered across
my face and through
my hair.

Your rising light
shrinking the shadows
of my freedom.

I will not be seduced
by your clear blue promises.

For your pressing realities
already taste foul
in my mouth.

Leave me Morning
to my diminishing serenity.

I am not a morning person too, I really like to sleep more and more. Yet we have to wake up and start our day and start something new!

I just had to go read your debut poem on Soup, Scott! "Good morning" to you, too! Unfortunately, the promises of a brand new day are not always kept. Yet, it's up to us to make the most of the situation. ~ Regards // paul

Scott, such an awesome poem! You have aptly put into your graceful lines of poetry what I think and feel in the morning.. your first three stanzas, especially, I can completely relate to. A sparkling, beautifully expressed and enthralling write! Warmest wishes ~Susan

Hello Scott. This was fabulous. I did click on the video. It came through. Your words are so true. I think we all second your words and thoughts. If only we can stay within our dreams and sleep. Well done entirely.

I absolutely started my Soup life with one of my best. Yes currently I live in New Zealand (oh and this place is beautiful), but as my wife reminded me today, in two weeks I will be living back home in Australia. Change is coming...

I love this one too, looking through your "best poems" did you know Soup has assigned us lists of our best poems? It's such a cool feature. I too despise the morning. but lately I have not been able to sleep past 7 no matter what time I go to bed the night before.
