Notes About The Poem

Moonlight Faded To Dim

"and the birds twitter like whispering violins " ~ Constance La France
For several years we shared love and laughter Much too soon came the time, I had to let him go But he made me promise, then and forever after to try not to cry, yet my tears continue to flow I keep him near, for he still lives within my heart Love was stolen by the hands of time or cruel fate No kiss has touched my lips since we've been apart I pray someday my grief and heartache will abate There is no romantic love song I can bear to hear Even bird trilling sounds sad, as if played on violins It makes me break my promise, not to shed a tear With each thought of him, a stream of them begins Now, I've sleepless nights spent remembering him My arms are empty and there's no music in my ear Stars no longer sparkle, and moonlight faded to dim Only in fragile dreams does my loved one reappear May 16, 2023 Writing Challenge A Quotes Sponsored by Constance La France

Thanks, Jan. Sorrowful that so many can relate, but emotions are difficult to handle when joyful are sad.

Sad but brilliant. Sometimes grief takes a long time to pass.

That's true, Victor. Sometimes it never passes. Thanks a lot for reading and leaving your welcomed thoughts.

No kisses touch my lips since we've been apart I pray someday my grief and heartache will abate…everyone reacts differently to grief. My dad made a whole montage, with sad romantic music and all when my mom passed.

What love your parents must've shared, Kim. That kind of love doesn't happen to everyone, but when it does, it certainly is something to be celebrated. Thanks for letting me know the lines you especially enjoyed.

So touching ! The feelings of one who has lost the love of his /her life is so poignantly delineated without any drama or exaggeration. Even the trilling of birds pains his/her heart. One who has experienced true and sincere love is satiated in life that he /she never craves for anybody else's love. Beautiful poem dear Lin.

Hi Jo. Thanks so much for liking this one, even though it rings of sorrow. When I saw the painting, I knew where Constance's quote was taking me... not where it led me when I first read it. We never know along what path our thoughts will lead us.

Wow! Lin, Your chosen quote inspired you to write such a well-written and heartfelt write. We all dream of love as you described, but most never find it. Nevertheless if one does, it would be well worth it, even if they lost it through unfortunate circumstances. Your last stanza paints such a sad picture. It looks like a winner to me. Best wishes in the contest. PS, Thanks for being the "lone" person to comment on my poem for the contest challenge. Have a nice day- Alexis

Alexis, I don't always manage to comment on all the poems written by my friends, so I'm delighted that I found yours and left my thoughts. Love can be the most joyous emotion on earth, and then again it can be the reason for the most emotional pain we've felt. It's a risk, but one worth taking. The alternative? Never knowing what it was like to love someone, or to know their love in return. Thank you, my sweet friend for so many comments you've offered me. I hope all your days are good ones. Hugs.

You always seem to write with such ease, Lin. regardless of the topic. Im jealous! I must admit though. I havent felt the feeling your poem describes since high school. Love has been no friend of mine.

Good morning, Danny and thank you for thinking my poetry always flows easily. Sometimes finding the right words is like being drawn down in an undertow. Love can be friend or foe, taking us to the heights and depths of both.
