Monsters lurk within the dregs of my soul
suckling upon my primitive urges.
And feigning normalcy, they're but shadows,
thus invisible; and invincible.
They stay somewhere between sane and insane,
able to influence reality.
And despite my defenses, wander free,
causing turmoil and havoc in my life.
Fear's an accomplice; an effective shield,
ensuring their movements are well concealed.
And feeding where there's the least resistance,
they affect who I am and how I feel.
They can corrupt my soul with hate and greed,
gnawing away at the concept of fair.
And oft twist reality out of shape,
till whatever feels good also feels right.
But when I confront them, they flee inside,
where they get temporarily restrained.
And since I can't kill my inner demons,
I've one recourse; that's to lock them away.
