Moment of Light-- Years of Shadow
wishes hopes and dreams
school sales, festivals, food and fun
in a moment gone
people fallen, children lost
3, 9, 22 depart in a flash
so many fell in three cities
they’ve left life’s promises too soon
in a moment of light then shadows
came senseless savagery
loving lives gone others torn
nightmares and fears have now begun
from young men drawn to stealing lives
away from the possibility of friends,
growth, work, children, loves
radical young drawn by hateful words,
cruel dreams deviant works their own death
— most religions are not vicious
most people are kind
Gilroy had family and friends
I called late at night finally able to breathe
in those cities so many lives were shattered
and in those cities life will resurrect again
