Missing My Little Boys

My babies have all gone, They've grown and left the nest, Spreading out their wings to fly, Upon life's thrilling quest. The years flew by so quickly. Babies turned into little boys. Little boys grew into manhood, Putting away their childish toys. I miss those little boy faces, With their mischievous, winsome smiles. I miss their childish chatter, And their creative little boy wiles. Why didn't I pay more attention? Why didn't I play with them more? Why didn't I realize how fleeting time was? But I didn't and it makes my heart sore. I miss the little boys that my sons were, But I'm proud of the men they've grown to be. They will always be my little boys, And I will treasure each and every memory. Kim Merryman 3/10/12

This poem is dear to my heart....I relate to every word of love expressed...my little boys are fine men (and my daughter a fine woman)...but the time I held them in my arms, was so fleeting. I miss their childhoods...and as mothers we did not understand how quickly they leave the nest.Beautiful win, Kim!!

As a parent of two boys, now grown men, I to have often wondered "Did I do the best I can." Today, I would not change a hair on their heads. Congratulations on a winning poem.

Aaahh, they're always your little boys. Nice write, Kim. Don't be so hard on yourself - while you lament missing your little boys, you might be loosing time with your young men. ;-) Beautiful, sentimental write, however, and well deserving a first place finish. Congratulations, Joe

Congratulations on your first place win! This one touched me more than any of the others - because I feel this way even though my daughter is only 9 - that I should do more with her and also how quickly the years have already passed!
