Missing Mom

(Just my 3rd submission. Don't worry, I won't number everyone of them! Just so that readers are aware that I am new to writing, and more so submitting.) (( I lost my Mom on July 4th 2010. It was pretty tough on me, honestly. Still tough now, and her passing date was this month. Kinda made it a day unable to forget. My first 3 writings are of death. I'm certainly not all about death, but sad things get to me, and then I tend to find myself wallowing in it, playing music to it, and sometimes writing )) Rose into the sunset my everything, my Mom making sure I'm safe, happy, loved and calm thankless job of a Mom She's now an angel and watches me from above I can sense her presence I can still feel the love Mom had four of us but never made a fuss she loved each one of us She wanted her freedom from all the suffering and pain I so wanted her to stay but for my own gain I let her go that day wasn't easy but she couldn't stay too much pain, much too tired to be pain free is all she desired Time to go she said goodbye all I could do was cry and cry It was the fourth of July her pain about to end she chose this day for freedom off she went to ascend her time on earth came to an end Do not cry the preacher told me for it was her time the Lord called upon her no more mountains to climb So she smiles from above like a gentle dove watches over me with all a mother's love -James R. Jim, your poem touched my heart, your pain drips from every single word. I know this pain so well, as I had to make the decision to turn off my mom's life support and set her free.. there is not a day that I do not wallow in that pain. Well done poet !

The poignancy of your poem touches my being so very deeply, James. The emotions of your heart are beautifully spilled upon the page. I think I write about loss and sadness more than love and happiness too. I don’t think we ever get over the loss of our Mom. I truly appreciated your intimate poet’s note as well. Warmest wishes always.. ~Susan

Thanks, Susan! It will likely seem that I am a ball of depression and sadness, but that's not true either. It's just that when I think of writing, then I "think" deeply for words, and then instantly think of Mom, and my Grandparents, and even my best friend, my dog Jerome! I think I am quiet at such times, and then it comes out in time. -Jim

Hi, and thanks so much for the warm welcome, Jan! It's definitely from the heart even if not expressed so eloquently as everyone else here, but I'm learning as I go. - Seeing your Mom everyday is awesome. That's what I did as time went on, and just wish I did much much more. Thanks again!! -Jim

So sad. Every death brings back a memory of other deaths, and every funeral does the same. When you write poetry, your heart naturally writes what has called to her the most. So death and love are often the subjects of the best poems. I am glad you are here. Keep writing and keep posting!

This sent to me to recall our mother's passing. She too was in so much pain and I was holding her hand about ten minutes before she passed on. Seven of her 11 children were there and the sorrow was immense.. Mothers are usually the ones we miss the most since that is where we come from. Great poem my friend.. A fav..

Thanks, Robert! I remember discussing such things with you on DP. A very tough thing to deal with, but I oddly find ways to write during those times. -Jim
