Missing Family Today I planted seedlings with my hand In springtime's youth and wish to watch them bloom, As verdant leaves now grow across the land, In hopes the lovely blooms dispel the gloom Of my sad melancholy heart that dwells Within this lonely soul bereft of glee, With a yearning in which sincerely swells, Alone with tears of Fear's disparity. Sweet loves of my life now in distance glow, Whose loving faces I embraced each day, Just as these seedlings that I hope will grow, They live so close in thought, yet far away. In missing them I pray again to see Their sweet faces ensconced in memory. 5-24-20 ~Third Place~ BRIAN'S CHOICE 11,any form, any theme Poetry Contest Sponsor Brian Strand

Connie, I believe this is the last sonnet of yours I have not read. What a delightful journey it has been. Your talent for this form is exceeded only by the depths of your heart. The bittersweet vibrancy of this is so genuine, I can just feel how much you love and miss your beloved family. This is one of the most beautiful flower photos I've seen at Soup. Beauty all around. You are amazing, and your pen connects me with so many deep emotions. Thank you, poetry sister. Hugs ~ John

Thank you very much John. I wrote this sonnet after a year of missing my daughter and granddaughter who moved to the Big Island. I am happy to say Michelle, who is my youngest daughter, moved back home with me bringing back my beloved granddaughter to us. My husband got to realize his wish of her return for a month before he passed away in July. I am so thankful to have them with me now. Blessings xxoo

Back to say congratulations again, Connie. So wonderful to see this tender poem on the Best New Poem list. Like you with Abigail, I have loved this sonnet from the first time I read it. So wonderful to be able to share this honor with you. Blessings and hugs!

Dear Connie, I am touched. I also have the same feelings staying faraway from my daughters . Congrats to win on your most deserved poem. On attack of Amphan, my Internet connection went off for ten days. I was completely detached from Poetry soup. Love.

Such a touching write Connie glad it got a podium win. I zoom with family in Argentina and elsewhere and it's almost like being with them, I know it's not the same, but it's a pretty good substitute.

Such a tender melancholy expression of separation from those you love using seeds as images of, Connie. Love the metaphor of tending the seeds as you would tend your family. Congratulations on your winning placement. This is lovely.

I am touched by your poem, Connie, so much love and beauty in your poignant lines. Every mother can relate. My boys are still relatively young, but I know there will come a day that they'll fly away. Although my oldest who is almost 13, tells me he's going to live with me until I die, lol. Hugs to you, Rhonda :)

If I lived on the mainland I could drive to see them, but I need to take a ship or plane and both are impossible during this pandemic. I am sadist at not being able to see my youngest granddaughter and she is the last grandchild I will have. I get to see her on Face time and today I captured her first smile at me. She is 3 months old. Thank you Rhonda. I appreciate your understanding and kind words. Blessings xxoo

Lovely petals of many colors small and tall, a piece of serenity brings to our soul when gloom and depression sits. We desperately need those loving hugs and kisses from our own, we bore in our womb. Luke 11:27 27As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, "Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you." Lovely write, Connie. Hugs Eve

Oh how sweet, sincere and tender - my son said yesterday Mom, i've missed you but we are younger and less vulnerable so if we visit we will sit on the veranda - I've missed you too sweetheart I replied but we are now in the heart of Winter and if we don't get corona, we will get pneumonia! So we are waiting for Spring, but we video call often, the apple of my eye! Lovely poem Connie, vey graceful and loving. Blessings and hugs, Jennifer.

I miss the double seasons I used to have when flying down under Jennifer. I am sure you miss your son as I do mine and my three daughters. I loved having my children and grandchildren around me but now they are all gone. I’m very grateful for poetry that keeps me busy. Thank you very much. Blessings xxoo

My grandson from my son and granddaughter from my daughter live in California. I haven’t even seen my new granddaughter yet and she is three months old now. Because of the restrictions of this pandemic I don’t know when I will be able to see her for the first time. That saddens me greatly. Blessings xxoo

I love this sonnet, even though I know how much you are feeling the absence of beloved ones, Connie. Do keep yourself occupied with gardening and poetry...both are distractions that help to ease longing. ~ Best regards // paul

Thank you Paul, I will. My daughter called me today and she needed to get away from it all and is driving around the big Island by herself to help herself cope with being at home so long. Sometimes we just need to take a me day. Blessings xxoo

I planted some sunflowers to brighten my lalani as I would not dream of visiting anyone whilst airlines permit other passengers to share my seat! I could never live with myself if I infected my family with COVID-19, so am happy with Email until the risk has passed! Aloha! Rico

A beautiful living memory, perfectly written and traced. By trace, I mean I read your poem out loud and traced the imagery with my fingertips. Connie, today I'm giving myself the pleasure of reading your poem first. Only because I remember the warm feeling your words imprint within. I was very moved by the way you shared this with us, the longing in your words somehow feel at eased. God bless you and those we holds in our heart. Luv LINDA
