Miracles Cannot Happen

Miracles Cannot Happen

The laws of nature cannot be violated
and for this Miracles do not occur.
At best they’re simply coincidences,
Interpretations, often a bit of a blur.

Belief in Miracles are somewhat unjustified,
Miracles always perceived as positive.
Supernatural or of deity contrived,
Miraculous paradox, I sadly misgive.

All is explainable, no matter how complex,
Miracles require “extraordinary evidence.”
For this reason, they cannot happen,
Defying the laws of nature is nonsense.

Hello Kevin Shaw, i feel that miracles do happen. the church tha was on fire in France, is a miracle because the cross did not burn nor did the organ. Only part of the church needs to be rebuilt. This is a miracle. Have a nice evening my friend.

Hello Darlene, thanks for taking the time to comment on my rather contentious poem. I think it just extreme good fortune that the cross or the organ did not perish in the fire, if miracles are divine, why didn't God protect the whole building. Some amazing buildings like St Pauls cathedral in London survived the Blitz, by extreme good fortune. I enjoy reading your poems and thanks again for reading mine, kindest regards, Kevin x

Thanks for your comments, this little poem has raised a lot of interest and debate. It is however just a poem pure and simple. My message doesn't have to be scientific, Miracles are born of Deity and if like me you don't believe then Miracles cannot happen. Many thanks for reading my poem(s) a lot are harmless and less contentious, kindest regards, Kevin

That would be a statement and not an argument. Laws of nature (Laws of Physics) are not absolute or unchanging as science know them. For example, when liquid helium approaches absolute Zero Celsius the atoms of the helium will reduce in mass penetrating the glass beaker and defy gravity. Miracles could be undiscovered laws of nature utilized by an undiscovered entity. Or the way I see it "Miracles from God" Remember a light in the sky is a UFO unless you know what it is. take Care

Hi Kevin, It's a good thing to make people think, and not just except concepts purely because they sound appealing. But I must say, If one professes not to knowledge the existence of God in view of science and therefore consider the validity of miracles null,

Hi, Kevin! Congrats on POTD. I know you wrote for 'sake of argument'. I only have one question simply out of curiosity. Let's say, hypothetically, that you really do not believe in miracles. My question is, "Do you also not believe in Christ, His death, His Resurrection, and His Second Coming?" Just curious!

Thanks Curtis, I am really honoured to have my somewhat controversial poem featured as POTD. Whilst it is not my intention to offend, I do not have any faith of belief in a Deity and therefore don't believe in Miracles in their truest sense of the word, Kindest regards, Kevin

Kevin, I think the definition of miracle is lost with your poem. The fact that the universe put us together, in this exact time and space, to discuss; is all the proof I need. Just my 2¢ -Richard mir·a·cle noun a surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore considered to be the work of a divine agency.

What my poem says is as you also infer, Miracles are created by Divinity, so if you don't believe in a Deity then Miracles cannot happen, thanks for your comment, regards, Kevin

Today is Palm Sunday, and the resurrection of Jesus, the greatest miracle of all, is celebrated this Holy week and has been for over 2000 years. If we look, we can experience miracles above and beyond beyond "nature" which is a created miracle in itself, I believe.

Couldn't disagree with you more. Simply because something cannot be explained through modern lenses and understanding does not mean it doesn't exist. I have seen miracles happen.

Hi Phil - I am certainly creating a stir, just putting some thoughts out there. My understanding is that a miracle in its truest sense can only be created by Deity otherwise it is just unexpected, and whilst me may not always be able to explain everything now, perhaps eventually during evolution we will, thanks for your comments, regards, Kevin

Remember, the "Laws of Nature" are only the laws that we know up to this point. There may be things humans are not aware of at this point. What if there are beings in our universe that are not limited by what we call "Laws of Nature?" If they perform acts, they will seem like miracles to us humans. Don't limit yourself to humanity.

Well, I am a living miracle, because I was saved supernaturally from being run over by a speeding car at aged 6 yr. old! Both my mother and my sister were eyewitnesses to the fact that I was squarely in the middle of the road and the car did not break at all. I felt lifted from standing there, frozen in fear and pulled to the sidewalk within a split second...no joke! I wrote a poem, titled "Guardian Angel" about this very event.

I don't agree with you, not one bit, but as a counter view, you done good. Miracles defy explanation and care nothing for evidence. I didn't pause to debate but to say your write covers your view quite well. It was interesting to read because I haven't heard anyone slam miracles in a long time; good to remember other views. If you want to debate, for fun, call me. 1 800 mir-acle. Poetry hugs ... CayCay

Oh, fellow poet, I could take exception with this in so many ways, if space permitted; e.g., there is no law of nature that says the laws of nature will still be in effect in a week or a million years from now [we know they weren't operating at the initial moments of the Big Bang or the Universe couldn't have attained its current size]. Then too, science can only measure a world of 3 dimensions and time as the 4th. Quantum physics holds there are many more and time may not be linear after all.

Hello LJ, you are clearly very learned I make a case for argument and propose that if Miracles occur then it becomes a paradox because miracles cannot happen. I cannot disprove anything, no one can. On the other hand I have never been shown any definitive proof of a miracle or ghosts or God, I enjoy the debate, kind regards, Kevin
