Notes About The Poem

December 31, 2025

Premiere Contest WinnerMinstrel Wind and Dancer Lavender Romancing the Muse

Oh hypnotize, yon fields of grace,
your supple stems in wind’s embrace
and fill your scent my breathing space,
in sunlit rows and shadows
mid fuzzy hum in meadows.

Ahh bloom, dear blossoms, lavender!
Intoxicate the atmosphere;
a dalliance with yesteryear.
Do sway with rhythm blowy
sweet fleurs petite and showy,

do sway and let selves undulate
with air in rhythm celebrate
along with songs of windchimes, faint.
Oh dance, yes dance young breezes!
Romance the plume that teases

and reaches for the gold in skies,
where sylphs of sunset fraternize
as earth and heavens fantasize
of flowy ballerinas.
For gods a panacea

and too, my mind, as fingers sweep
the silk of petals on spikes steep
that wakes my dreams which were asleep.
For long they lay forgotten
their silver-gleam stems trodden.

Oh rise in rhythm, wind! Do rise,
and gift my voice a tryst with chimes,
recite with lilt soprano rhymes...
Make smooth my pulse to groove through veins
like lavender in tufted waves
...and wind, let whirl the rooster’s vane.

A beautifully musical, incantatory poem: its recurring imperatives—“Oh,” “Ahh,” “Do sway,” “Oh rise”—give the wind and lavender a shared, dance-like pulse. The rhymes, soft internal echoes, and winding line breaks create a dreamy pastoral movement, while the closing return to wind, chimes, pulse, and waves makes inspiration feel physical and alive. Congratulations on premier contest placement.👏

Susan my dear, dear, friend, you are in my minds eye always, I keep you in my heart as you are very special, I read your poems but this one I had to answer as you write about my favourite flower, Lavender. When we still had our big house before we retired our garden was half Full of lavender,,the other half, daises. Flowers blossom at the root of our souls, and light our paths going forward . How are you Susan - Your presence always so surrounding love and hugs dearest friend Jennifer

A beautiful mauve peace loving poem to send off 2025 & commence 2026. Reminded me of Blake. I could see your Inner Child dancing in lavender breezes with ballerinas in prayer & enchantments. The energy in poem is both delicate & strong with an uplifting final line. Loved this line : “Intoxicate the atmosphere;” ~ this is really what lavender blooms do. May your pulse be smoothed to groove, Dear Susan. Xx
