Mingle

“Your autonomy matters, so to utterly maintain it, mingle in social situations as you willingly see fit”
by author

Mingle – they told her.
Since you are single, you should mingle,
but she was shy and had no care for things
like fancy clothes, boyfriends or sparkly rings.

Mingle -they repeated,
saying not to be a wallflower at every dance,
but contrary to that of her peers,
her mind was rarely on romance.

Mingle – they kept saying,
and not to spend so much of her time
in some corner of the library mingling with books,
but no social ladder would she climb.

Mingle – her parents said.
Find someone to settle down with soon.
But she went far away to the university
and there this timid flower learned to bloom.

Mingle – that word she stopped hearing very much.
To mingle with bright minds is what she wanted to do.
She earned her doctorate in physics
and later made a scientific break-through!

Mingle – they no longer tell her.
The best minds in the nation bow to her.
They seek her out for her amazing knowledge.
Great people to her expertise defer.

Mingle with us -
the people most important in her field now say
at the parties in her mansion that she hosts
with the doting husband she’s married to today.

Sounds like she knew what she wanted. I wonder if this person is completely fictional or based on someone.

It's fictional. The idea just came to me as something different for mingle theme. However I bet somewhere in the world is a woman very similar to this one

My mingle days are over. I have great expectations of those who cannot answer. Sometimes it's sad how much time went by. Because it's no longer mingle but flirt.

What a story of a Marathon race into fame. She must have been so focused on what she wanted to achieve and had a clear perspective before her. Now many wish to mingle with her. Enjoyed your story line much. Andrea, you are a sure winner.

Nice poem. Mingle for the sake of meeting for lasting love, does not work necessarily. Love is sponteneous and comes by itself. Keeping and meeting life long goals are more important.

Excellent write! Most likely will be the top winner. A fave for me! I loved your quote and seamless stream of following a shy girl through life, who blooms in her own time!

When my wife died I was told to mingle. No do. I'll stay a widower. Great poem. Great ideas.

Very well done a true contender in the contest my one niece was much like this lady focusing on her job as a nurse not wanting a man but then one found her and now, she is a stay-at-home mom again well done
